Have you noticed that many yoga towels use plastic blends of microfiber, polyester and silicon?  At Kinshe Yoga we asked, why would someone practice yoga on fabrics that they would never wear?

We set about re-imagining the yoga towel with the principals of “Slow Yoga” in mind.

A Premium Turkish Cotton Yoga Towel -Non-Slip & Absorbent, required careful sourcing. We tried dozens of fabrics ranging from up-cycled industrial cotton/ nylon blends to bamboo towels to fabrics made from shredded plastic bottles. The recycling aspect plastic blends had a positive impact on the environment but didn't seem right for the human body. When we discovered sustainable Turkish cotton --imported from Istanbul- we realize knew our search was over.

WHAT’S OLD IS NEW AGAIN

Finding premium Turkish cotton was only half our journey to the Earthtowel. Just like silks and cashmere, we learned that fabric quality varies and the best Turkish cotton uses a traditional “peshtemal” weave that dates back more than 600 years! This ancient technology creates a fabric that is non-slip, absorbent, durable lightweight and soft - if the peshtemal weavers anticipated the needs of modern day yogis. 

HOW TO USE (Important)

The Earthtowel is moisture activated. Like all natural fiber yoga towels it is the process of the water passing through the fabric that clings the towel to the mat. In hot yoga, the body’s own perspiration activates the grip. In cooler classes you would need to spritz with water where hands and feet touch, We also made the Earthtowel over-sized —as the corners are meant to be tucked under the corners of the mat for added stability.  Once these elements are in place, the grip should be as strong or stronger than microfiber or polyester towels with silicon nubs.

As soon we unfurled the fabric on our mats we knew our search was over.
